Black and White in Birmingham ~ Who You Calling White? Or, Black? Or, Labanoneise

The story fell out of the cyber sphere all in one week. First a citizenship record that scratched out White as the race color designation and entered

Color: Lebanoneise

Are you kidding me? No. This is a 1905 birth record from Tennessee. The record set would be worth a read.

Then another reminder

Before anyone goes on about the American South or even America, I lived all over the world and write about the many colors and spaces of the world’s caste systems everywhere. Today we have horrible problems – this is why I bother to mention this.

I heard in an interview with that “white guy” by Fareed Zakaria and the “white guy” was explaining to Fareed how maybe he didn’t know the meaning of “white” to “that” “white man”.

I have to first write and read out loud my wish that all people have their DNA tested and read the admixture. The results are so inaccurate – so far – but we need to embrace the world and I hope when people see all the diversity in themselves it will help to bring love or at least tolerance between peoples.

The help-wanted ads in Birmingham floored me. By the time I was reading them, I think color designation had gone. But I just don’t know. But there they were in the 1940s.
